LAFAYETTE— The long ball was evident here Tuesday night at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamsen Park in a McNeese softball 5-2 loss to UL-Lafayette.
The loss drops the Cowgirls to 20-13 overall while the Cajuns improve to 20-13 on the season. The loss is the fifth straight and
All seven runs of the game were scored in the first two innings, and all seven runs came via homeruns.
The Cajuns took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a solo homerun by Haley Hart and a two-run homerun by Brooke Otto.
Corine Poncho put the Cowgirls on the board with a two-run homer in the second inning to cut the lead to one run, 3-2. The homerun is Poncho's fourth of the season.
The Cajuns got those two runs back on Hart's second homerun of the game, a two-run shot in the bottom of the second inning to lead 5-2.
McNeese collected six hits in the game with six different Cowgirls picking up one hit apiece.
Maddie Taylor falls to 6-3 overall with the loss. Taylor gave up three earned runs and only face three batters before she was replaced by
Brookelyn Taylor. Brookelyn gave up one hit in 1 1/3 innings before giving way to
Kadence Williams. Williams closed out the game, allowing only two hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Hart led the Cajuns at the plate, going 3 for 3 including two homeruns. Bethany Noble improved to 7-4 overall with the win, allowing six hits, two runs in 5 1/3 innings.
McNeese will return home for its next six games that includes Southland Conference series against Incarnate Word and Southeastern.
T1- Nyjah Fontenot led the game off with a triple but the Cowgirls left her stranded on the base.
B1- UL-Lafayette took a 3-0 lead three batters into the game, coming from a leadoff homerun by Haley Hart and a two-run homerun by Brooke Otto
