LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball rolled past Louisiana Christian with an 11-1 victory Wednesday night, using a steady offensive attack to secure the midweek win.
With the win, the Cowboys improve to 13-12 overall (6-6 Southland Conference), while Louisiana Christian falls to 26-7 overall (11-4 Red River Athletic Conference).
McNeese struck early, plating two runs in the first inning. Danny Barbero doubled to drive in the first run, and Marcus Heusohn followed by bringing Barbero home from third to give the Cowboys a 2-0 lead.
The Cowboys added four more runs in the second inning to extend their advantage. Connor Schneider laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Simon Larranaga, and Kaden Schuck followed with a two-RBI single to right-center field. Barbero added another RBI single to cap the inning and make it 6-0.
Schneider continued the momentum in the third inning with an RBI single to left field, scoring DJ Pinkerton to push the lead to 7-0.
McNeese added two more runs in the fourth inning. Matt Stancliff doubled to right-center field to score Bryce Fontenot, and Heusohn followed with an RBI single down the right field line to extend the lead to 9-0.
In the fifth inning, Schuck tripled to deep left-center field to score Schneider, and Fontenot followed with an RBI double to make it 11-0.
Louisiana Christian broke up the shutout in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Braden McLin, cutting the deficit to 11-1.
On the mound, Garrett Blanchard earned his first win of the season, improving to 1-2 after tossing 4.2 innings while allowing just one hit and one run with three strikeouts and one walk.
Louisiana Christian starter Kade Linn was charged with the loss, falling to 5-2 on the season.
McNeese returns to action Friday night as it opens a three-game series against Abilene Christian. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., with all games streaming on ESPN+.
