Stringfellow’s Two-Homer Night Powers McNeese Past UL Lafayette, 10-7

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball closed out its 10-game home stand with a 10-7 victory over UL Lafayette on Tuesday night in the Battle of I-10, powered by a two-home run performance from Hayden Stringfellow.

With the win, the Cowboys improve to 15-14 overall (6-6 Southland Conference), while UL Lafayette falls to 18-11 overall (3-6 Sun Belt Conference). McNeese returns to action Thursday against New Orleans, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.

McNeese struck first in the opening inning when Danny Barbero reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Bryce Fontenot to score for a 1-0 lead.

UL Lafayette answered in the second inning on an RBI single from Lee Amedee, tying the game at 1-1.

The Cowboys responded in the bottom half of the inning when Fontenot launched his third home run of the season over right-center field, scoring Connor Walker to give McNeese a 3-1 advantage.

McNeese added another run in the fourth inning when Matt Stancliff doubled to right-center field to drive in DJ Pinkerton, extending the lead to 4-1.

The game broke open in the fifth and sixth innings behind Stringfellow. The junior blasted his first Division I home run in the fifth inning, then followed it up in the sixth with a grand slam, driving in four runs. McNeese plated six runs across the two innings to build a commanding 10-1 lead.

UL Lafayette made things interesting in the seventh inning, scoring six runs to cut the deficit to 10-7.

Garrett Blanchard earned his second win of the season, improving to 2-2 after tossing three innings while allowing just two hits and striking out one. Parker Morgan recorded his first Division I save, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing no hits and striking out two.

UL Lafayette starter JR Tollet took the loss, falling to 4-2 after allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out two.
