McNeese Powers Past LSU-A in Midweek Matchup

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball picked up its fourth consecutive midweek win Wednesday night at home as it beat the LSU-Alexandria Generals (14-9), 12-2 in a mercy rule outing.
 
McNeese improves to 7-6 on the year with the win. The Cowboys, 2-1 in Southland Conference play, return to league action on Friday to start a three-game home series against HCU. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
The Cowboys struck first as Marcus Heusohn singled up the middle to bring home Danny Barbero from second base to give them an early 1-0 lead over the Generals. The very next inning with bases loaded, Matt Stancliff drew walk to bring home another run for the Cowboys.
 
Top of the third, the Generals struck when Tinnerello homered to deep right center to cut the lead down to one.
 
In the third, Bryce Fontenot hit a sac fly to right field to bring in Hayden Stringfellow to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Cowboys.
 
LSU-Alexandria responded the very next inning when Kratzer reached on a fielding error that scored Dooley to cut the lead back down to one for the Cowboys.
 
Barbero sent one over the left field wall for his third on the season to score two to begin the sixth inning. Following that homer with bases loaded, Hayden Stringfellow scored courtesy of a balk by the General's pitcher. Simon Larranaga would then reach on a throwing error to score Heusohn to give the Cowboys a five-point lead.
 
A five-run seventh inning for the Cowboys would put the game out of reach courtesy of two doubles by Barbero and Heusohn, and two walks drawn by Larranaga and Landon Kerkmaz respectively.
 
The starters for the Generals, Jack Cowan, would pitch only one inning while giving up a hit, one run, and walking one on the way to his first loss on the season to move to 1-1 overall after seeing seven other Generals come in to pitch in relief.
 
McNeese starter, Paul Coppinger pitched three innings and allowed one run on one hit while and striking out five to move to 1-1 on the season. Adrian Najar, Elliott Burrows, and Wyatt Wick pitched the final four innings of the game only giving up two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out seven.
