LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball dropped the series finale to HCU on Saturday, falling by a scored of 12-4. With the loss, McNeese falls to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in in the Southland Conference while HCU improves to 8-8 overall and 4-2 in the league while picking up the series win 2-1.
The Cowboys will return to action on Wednesday when they take a trip down I-10 to take on long-time rival ULL. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will stream live on ESPN+.
McNeese struck first in the bottom half of the first when
Matt Stancliff homered to left center for his third on the season to give the Cowboys an early 1-0 lead.
Houston Christian responded the very next inning with a three-run frame that began with a triple by Jackson to deep center field to take a 3-1 lead. In the next frame, the Huskies plated three more runs coming from a two-run homer to left field by Castilleja and then a solo shot by Curtis to increase the lead to 6-1.
The fourth inning was no different when the Huskies plated another three runs in the from a Hendricks double and a bases clearing single by Castilleja to increase their lead to 9-1.
Cowboys answered in the fourth with one-run courtesy of a
Simon Larranaga double to bring in Marcus Heausohn to cut the lead to 9-2.
HCU would respond in the fifth with a solo homer to left field to make it 10-2.
Seth Fontenot hit his first homer of the season in the bottom of the fifth sending it 456 feet over the left field wall.
Huskies would plate two more runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach for the Cowboys though they would not give up and send one more homer over the right field wall courtesy of
Viggo Lopez, his first of the season.
HCU starter Smith earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the season after tossing six innings giving up three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out five.
McNeese starter
Garett Blanchard would pick up his second loss of the season moving to 0-2 after throwing 2.1 innings giving up five runs on six hits while walking one and striking out one.
