LAKE CHARLES—
Malayna Daigles pinch hit walk-off triple led McNeese softball to a Southland Conference 8-0 (run-rule) win over Lamar Saturday to complete the series sweep to improve to 19-7 overall and 3-0 in the SLC. The loss drops Lamar to 11-13 overall and 0-3 in the SLC.
McNeese jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the second inning after scoring three runs in the first and one in the second inning.
The first five McNeese players reach base to start the game that included two doubles and three walks.
Nyjah Fontenot started thing off for the Cowgirls with a leadoff double followed by a walk to
Corine Poncho.
Rylee Cloud doubled to left center Fontenot for the first Cowgirl run.
After a walk by Muñoz to load the bases
Maddie Taylor also drew a walk that scored Poncho for a 2-0 lead. The third Cowgirl run of the game via a sacrifice fly by
Maddie Weeks that brought Muñoz home.
McNeese extended its lead to 4-1 with a single run in the second inning on a Poncho ground out that scored Dibbley from third.
Dibbley scored again in the fourth on another ground out, this time it was on a Cloud ground out to lead 5-0.
The Cowgirls ended the game with three runs in the fifth on three hits and one Lamar error.
Rylee Eyster led the inning off with a single to center followed by a
Kassidy Chance double to left center that sent Eyster to third. Weeks reached on an error to load the bases then pinch hitter Daigle cleared the bases with a triple down the left field line to end the game.
McNeese scored eight runs, on eight hits- six of which were extra base hits with eight RBI and one strikeout. Cloud and Dibbley led McNeese with two hits apiece. Both Dibbley's hits were doubles, giving her a team high nine on the season.
Brookelyn Taylor improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the SLC with the complete game shutout., after allowed four hits, one walk and struck three. Taylor was also the winner in Saturday's opener.
The Cowgirls will hit the road for its next eight games beginning with a non-conference game at Louisiana Tech on Wednesday.
