FRISCO, Texas- McNeese head women's tennis coach
Sonia Carlson has been named the 2026 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year, the league announced the All-Southland Conference Team today prior to the SLC Tennis Championship which begins on Sunday.
Carlson guided the Cowgirls to a historic season that resulted in McNeese's first Southland Conference outright regular season title and only the second in program history. Carlson led a team that posted a 21-1 overall record and a perfect 9-0 conference record. The 21 wins are the most in program history and the undefeated conference record is the first in program history. McNeese also went undefeated at home (8-0) and have put together the longest winning streak in program history, a 16-match winning streak.
Carlson is the third McNeese coach to win coach of the year honors and the first since Helena Besovic was named SLC coach of the year in 2018.
The Cowgirls were also represented on the team with all honors coming on the first team.
Ana Hollweg,
Erica Hagi, and
Elena Morales all picked up first team singles honors.
Hollweg earned first team honors at No. 4 singles where she posted an 8-1 conference record and had the best record in the SLC at No. 4 at 15-2. Hollweg, who was named SLC Player of the Week three times this season finished the regular season with a 20-2 overall record. The 20 wins are the most on the team and in the SLC this season.
Hagi picked up first team honors at No. 5 singles where she went 8-1 in the SLC and 16-2 overall. Her No. 5 singles record (13-2) is the best in the SLC this season and her 16 overall wins ties her for fourth in the SLC.
Morales is a first team selection at No. 6 singles where she went undefeated in the SLC at 8-0, the best SLC record in the SLC. She posted a 19-1 overall record including a 15-1 record at No. 6. Her 19 overall wins ties for the most singles wins in the SLC and the second most on the team.
The Cowgirls also picked up first team doubles honors at No. 2 and No. 3. The No. 2 doubles team of
Salome Fluri and
Erica Hagi posted a 6-1 conference record and a 12-2 overall record. The 12 wins are the most No. 2 doubles wins this season and the six SLC doubles wins ties for the most in the SLC this season.
Hollweg and Naomi Hollweg earned first team honors as the No. 3 doubles team. The duo went undefeated in the SLC at 9-0 and 19-2 overall including an 18-2 overall record at No. 3. The nine SLC doubles wins are the most in the SLC in all doubles.
