WTEN: No. 1 Seed McNeese Tennis Begins Quest For SLC Tournament Title On Sunday

LAKE CHARLES—The 2026 Southland Conference women's tennis regular season champions, McNeese Cowgirls will begin their quest for its second SLC Tournament title in the history of the program when the Cowgirls, the tournament's No. 1 seed will open play against No. 8 seed New Orleans at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center in Beaumont, Texas.  Livestats will be available for all matches.
 
McNeese is on a historic run after finishing the regular season with the most wins in program history with a 21-1 overall record and a perfect 9-0 conference record, the first McNeese team to go undefeated in conference play.
 
The Cowgirls picked up a 5-2 win over the Privateers in the regular season in New Orleans on March 30.
 
A win by the Cowgirls would advance them to the semifinal round and they will play the winner of the No. 4 SFA/No. 5 UIW on Monday, April 20 at 2 p.m.
 
The Championship match is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 21 and will stream on ESPN+
 
McNEESE WOMEN'S TENNIS NOTES
• Looking for its second SLC Tournament title in program history
• McNeese won the SLC Tournament in 2018
• Are the winningest team in program history with 21 wins
• Ended the regular season with a 21-1 record
• Are the first McNeese team to go undefeated in conference (9-0)
• The outright title is the first outright title in program history and the second title in program history. McNeese were SLC regular season co-champions in 2018. • Entered the regular season on a 16 straight matches. The winning streak ties the program's longest winning streak
• The nine SLC wins are the third most in program history- 10 SLC wins is the record (2014, 2018)
• Four Cowgirls ended the regular season with at least 10 wins (Ana Hollweg- 20, Elena Morales- 19, Erica Hagi- 16, Salome Fluri- 13)
Elena Morales finished the regular season undefeated in conference play with an 8-0 record
• Morales finished the regular season on a singles 14-match winning streak
• Three doubles teams won at least 10 matches
• The doubles team of Ana Hollweg/Naomi Hagi led the team with a 19-2 overall record and ended the regular season on an 11-match winning streak
• Head coach Sonia Carlson was named the SLC "Coach of the Year"
• Three Cowgirls were named to the All-SLC first team in singles and two doubles teams were named to All-SLC first team
Ana Hollweg (No. 4 singles), Erica Hagi (No. 5 singles), and Elena Morales (No. 6 singles) were named to the All-SLC first team.
Salome Fluri/Erica Hagi (No. 2 doubles) and Ana Hollweg/Naomie Hagi (No. 3 doubles) were named to the All-SLC first team.
