LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball ended its regular season Tuesday night with a 16-0 run-rule loss at No. 20 LSU. The loss snaps the Cowgirls eight game winning streak as they fall to 35-19 overall. The Tigers improved to 35-16 with the win.
LSU scored four runs on three hits in the first inning then blew the game open with eight runs on six hits in the second inning for a 12-0 lead. The Tigers added four more runs on five hits in the fourth.
Alexis Dibbley picked up the Cowgirls only hit of the game with a single through the right side in the third inning.
McNeese used four pitchers with
Brookelyn Taylor suffering the loss to fall to 12-7 on the season. Taylor allowed four runs on two hits in 2/3 innings.
Char Lorenz and Destiny Harris led LSU at the plate with two hits apiece. Cece Cellura improved to 7-5 with the win after allowing one hit, one walk in three shutout innings.
McNeese will return home to host its Southland Conference Tournament Bracket Play. The Cowgirls, the tournament's No. 2 seed will face No. 7 seed Stephen F. Austin at 4 p.m. Thursday.
