Late Rally Falls Short as McNeese Falls to Houston

HOUSTON, TEXAS – McNeese baseball dropped its final midweek game of the season, falling 4-2 to Houston on Wednesday at Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.

With the loss, the Cowboys fall to 23-22 overall (11-13 Southland Conference), while the Cougars improve to 19-25 overall (4-17 Big 12). McNeese returns to action Friday as it travels to Stephen F. Austin for a three-game conference series, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

Houston struck first in the opening inning when Cade Climie singled down the left field line to score Tre Broussard and give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

The Cougars added to their advantage in the third inning on a solo home run by Jackson LaLima, extending the lead to 2-0.

Houston pushed its lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning when Carsten Sabathia delivered an RBI and added another run in the seventh on an RBI single by Climie to make it 4-0.

McNeese got on the board in the ninth inning as Isaiah Keller launched a two-run home run to deep right field—his sixth of the season and third in the last five games—to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Houston reliever Connor Udland earned the win, improving to 3-3 after tossing three scoreless, hitless innings with four strikeouts.

McNeese starter Garrett Blanchard took the loss after allowing one run on two hits over two innings while striking out one.
