NEW ORLEANS – McNeese baseball dropped game two of its series at New Orleans, falling 5-2 on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Cowboys move to 16-15 overall (7-7 Southland Conference), while New Orleans improves to 13-20 overall (5-12 SLC). The rubber match is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday  and will stream live on ESPN+.

McNeese struck first in the opening inning when Hayden Stringfellow was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing Matt Stancliff to score and give the Cowboys a 1-0 lead.

New Orleans answered in the bottom half of the inning as Kruise Newman doubled to right center to drive in Dylan Biddick. Dathan Cummings followed with another double to right center, scoring Newman to give the Privateers a 2-1 lead.

The Privateers added to their advantage with single runs in the second and third innings. Owen Smith and Kareh Valentine each recorded RBI singles to extend the lead to 4-1.

McNeese cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when DJ Pinkerton delivered an RBI single to left field, scoring Marcus Heusohn to make it 4-2.

New Orleans added an insurance run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Smith to right center, scoring Eli Tidwell and pushing the lead to 5-2.

McNeese starter Paul Coppinger took the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season after allowing four runs on six hits over three innings, with four walks and two strikeouts.

New Orleans starter William Andrade earned the win after tossing six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out four.
