LAKE CHARLES – The Cardiac Cowboys struck again Thursday night as McNeese baseball walked off Northwestern State 1-0 in 11 innings at Joe Miller Ballpark courtesy of an Easton Dowell RBI double.
With the win, the Cowboys improve to 26-23 overall (14-14 Southland Conference), while the Demons fall to 25-22 overall (16-12 SLC). Game two of the series is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. and will stream live on ESPN+.
In a game dominated by pitching, Northwestern State managed seven hits on the night, including doubles in the second and 11th innings.
McNeese recorded just three hits, with Dowell accounting for two of them. He opened the game with a single in the first inning before delivering the game-winning double to left-center field in the bottom of the 11th, scoring Marcus Heusohn from first base. Korey Cooper added the Cowboys' other hit with a double down the left field line in the third inning.
Dowell led the Cowboys offensively, finishing 2-for-5 with the walk-off RBI.
Both pitching staffs turned in dominant performances throughout the night.
Northwestern State starter Dylan Marionneaux tossed nine scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six. Reliever Caden Fivash took the loss after allowing the game-winning run in the 11th inning, falling to 3-1 on the season.
McNeese starter Cooper Golden delivered one of his strongest outings of the year, throwing 7.2 scoreless innings while allowing five hits and striking out four.
Reliever Jaden Bahl closed the door for the Cowboys, tossing the final 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out two to earn his second win of the season.
