LAKE CHARLES—
Maddie Weeks' one out double to right centerfield scored pinch runner
Adriana Mireles all the way from first base to give McNeese softball a 1-0 walk-off win in the opening game of the Southland Conference Championship Series Thursday night.
The best of three game series will continue with game 2 set for 6 p.m. Friday with the (if necessary) game scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday.
McNeese (39-19) picked up seven hits in the game while the Cardinals (33-23) ended the game two hits.
Kassidy Chance led the Cowgirls at the plate, going 3 for 4 and
Maddie Taylor was 2 for 3. Taylor picked up the complete win in the circle, improving to 16-4 on the season. Taylor allowed two hits and walked two in the win.
Lamar's hits were singles from Cimara-lei Wessling and Sicily Windham while Reagan Smith took the complete game loss falling to 15-6 on the year. Smith allowed seven hits, five walks and struck out three.
The Cowgirls had a few chances early in the game to score but the Lamar defense continued its outstanding play from last weekend and held the Cowgirls scoreless.
Likewise, the Cowgirls also made some outstanding defensive plays coming from all of its infielders as well as a hard out made by left fielder
Rylee Eyster in the top of the 10
th inning.
McNeese looked like it would score in the bottom of the seventh when
Maddie Taylor and
Alexis Dibbley both drew back-to-back walks with one out. A Mieko Dominguez fielder's choice moved Taylor to third base, but the Cardinals got out of the jam with an infield out to third base, sending the game into extra innings.
