VB: Wilson Leads Cowgirls In Loss at UL-Monroe

MONROE— Despite several players setting personal season high's, McNeese volleyball fell short of its first win of the season, falling 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19) at Louisiana-Monroe (3-5) Thursday night.  The match is the first of three in their North Louisiana swing this weekend.
 
McNeese (0-7) will travel to Grambling on Friday for a 4 p.m. match and Louisiana Tech for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday.   
 
Kayla Wilson and Ava Henry led the Cowgirls in kills with 14 and 12 respectively.  Grace Troxell led the Warhawks with 12 kills.
  
 
Set 1
• With ULM leading 7-6, McNeese went on a 4-0 run to take a 10-7 lead following back-to-back kills by Ava Henry.
• McNeese extended its lead to 13-9 on two kills by Henry and one by Kayla Wilson
• ULM then outscored McNeese 8-2 to lead 17-15.
• Kills by Carli Banks and Aaniyah Kitchen tied the set at 17 apiece
• ULM led 20-18, McNeese went on a 4-1 run to lead 22-21 following a kill by Gabbie Maldonado.
• ULM then outscored McNeese 4-0 to take the set 25-22
 
Set 2
• McNeese held an early 8-6 record
• ULM scored the next four points to lead 10-8
• McNeese fought back to tie the set at 12
• McNeese trailed 21-19 but two straight points on kill by Henry and Wilson tied the set at 21
• The teams traded points and knotted up at 22 before the Warhawks scored two straight points to lead 24-22
• A solo block by ULM's Marissa Kobelski was the winning point to give the Warhawks an overall 2-0 match lead.
 
Set 3
• McNeese took an early 9-4 lead following a 4-0 run then extended its lead to 12-8
• Two more points by McNeese on a Wilson kill and a ULM error extended the lead to 14-9
• Wilson's kill put McNeese ahead 15-11 at the media timeout
• McNeese extended its lead to 20-15 following a Maldonado kill and a ULM error
• ULM scored three straight points to cut the lead to two (20-18)
• McNeese led 24-18 following two straight blocks, a ULM error, and a kill by Gaby Santiago
• A kill by Henry, her 10th kill of the match gave McNeese the third set win.  
 
Set 4
• McNeese jumped out to a 6-3 lead
• ULM outscored McNeese 7-1 including a 5-0 run to take the lead for the first time in the set at 10-7 before extending it to 15-10 at the media timeout.
• Five straight points by the Cowgirls out of the timeout tied the set at 15 apiece
• ULM responded with an 8-0 run to lead 23-15 before Carli Banks' kill ended the run.
• McNeese answered with four straight points (23-19)
• ULM scored the final two points of the set on a kill by Grace Troxell and a setting error by the Cowgirls to end the match.
 
McNeese Notes
• McNeese recorded a season high 55 kills, 167 attempts, 48 assists,  and 86 digs
Kayla Wilson led all players with a match and season high 14 kills
Ava Henry ended the match with 12 kills, a season high for her and led McNeese with three blocks
Corynne Hausler recorded her second double-double of the season (24 assists, 15 digs), both are season high's
Harmony Soles tied her career high with nine kills
Carli Banks recorded a season high eight kills and 19 digs
Sophia Tocmo picked up a career high 31 digs to lead all players
