VB: Cowgirls Sweep La. Tech

RUSTON— McNeese volleyball picked up where it left off following its first win of the season on Friday against Grambling by defeating Louisiana Tech (6-4) in straight sets (26-24, 25-20, 25-20) on Saturday for its second straight sweep to improve to 2-7 on the season.
 
Senior Kayla Wilson led the Cowgirls offense with 13 kills, her third straight match with at least 10 kills in each match.
 
Harmony Soles produced the best individual hitting percent (.455) for the Cowgirls with six kills in 11 attempts and one hitting error.
 
Setters Corynne Hausler and Megan Grose both ended the match with double figure assists with Hausler ending with 17 assists and Grose with 15.  
 
Freshman libero Sophia Tocmo continued her string of matches with 10 or more digs to lead all players with 17 in the match.  Tocmo has recorded 10 or more digs in eight of nine matches and has 10 or more digs in the last eight straight matches.
 
Ava Henry led the Cowgirls at the net with two blocks.
 
McNeese, after being on the road for its first nine matches, will host Grambling at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17 in its home opener and the first match of the Cowgirl Classic.  McNeese will also face Oral Roberts at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 in the final match of the Classic.  Grambling and Oral Roberts will take the court on Friday, Sept. 18 in a 6 p.m. match.   
 
SET 1
• McNeese held a 15-14 lead at the technical timeout
• After the timeout, La. Tech scored four straight points to led 18-15
• Cowgirls come from behind to take the first set 26-24
 
SET 2
• La. Tech led by 12-9
• McNeese cut the lead to one 12-11 and then again at 13-12 before tying the set at 13
• La. Tech scored the next two points to lead 15-13 at the technical timeout
• McNeese took its first lead (18-17) of the set on a kill by Gaby Santiago
• McNeese outscored La. Tech 7-3 to take the set for a 2-0 overall match lead  
 
SET 3
• La. Tech led 15-13 at the technical timeout
• McNeese scored five straight points out of the timeout to take the lead for the first time at 18-15
• The Cowgirls took their largest lead of the set (20-16)
• La. Tech scored three straight points to cut the McNeese lead to one point (20-19)
• McNeese responded with three straight of their own to lead 23-19
 • A La. Tech error then a kill by the Bulldogs put the score at 24-20
Harmony Soles finished off the set and match with her sixth kill of the match to claim the win.
 
McNEESE NOTES
• McNeese not only picked up its second straight win of the season, but the win was the second straight sweep
• McNeese ended the match with a .239 hitting percent while the Bulldogs had a .212 hitting percent.
Kayla Wilson led McNeese in kills (13) for the third straight match
Sophia Tocmo led with 17 digs.  Tocmo has recorded double figure digs in eight of nine matches including 10 or more in the last eight straight matches
• Setters Corynne Hausler and Megan Grose both dished out double figure assists.  Hausler was credited with 17 and Grose with 15.

McNeese will play its first home matches of the season by hosting its own Cowgirl Classic beginning next Thursday, Sept. 17 thru Saturday, Sept. 19.  McNeese will host Grambling on Thursday and Oral Roberts on Saturday.  Grambling and Oral Roberts will face each other on Friday.
