FRISCO, Texas - Following a weekend where he became McNeese's first quarterback to throw for four touchdowns in making his first start,
Devin Lippold has been named this week's Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Cowboys to a 52-0 win over Texas Wesleyan, the league office announced on Monday.
Â
Lippold completed 15 of 20 passes for 199 yards with no interceptions to go along with his touchdown tosses. He posted an efficiency of 224.6.
Â
The sophomore from Houston threw TD passes of 22, 10, 8 and 36 yards while playing just two-and-a-half quarters after being lifted with McNeese up 38-0 midway through the third. His 11 completions and 199 passing yards are a career high.
Â
Twice on Saturday, Lippold completed five straight passes and connected on 15 of 19 after throwing an incompletion on his first attempt. He also ran for 11 yards.
Â
His four touchdown passes were the most since Cody Orgeron threw four TDs against Nicholls in the 2021 spring season.
Â
SFA's Lowote Jurkin and Carlos Alvardo were named the league's defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Â
McNeese returns home this Saturday to host No. 4 ranked Tarleton State who defeated FBS Bowling Green this past weekend. Tarleton will be the highest-ranked opponent to play in Navarre Stadium since McNeese hosted No. 2 Sam Houston back in 2013.
