Connor Lloyd

McNeese State head baseball coach Justin Hill has announced the hiring of Connor Lloyd to serve as an assistant coach for the Pokes. A member of the McNeese baseball team from 2012-15, Lloyd officially joins the Cowboy staff following last season where he served as team captain.

"I am excited to announce that Connor Lloyd will be joining our baseball staff as an assistant coach," said Hill. "Many of the qualities that Connor embodied as a player translate well to the coaching profession. He is loyal, trustworthy, hard working, and a great teammate. He understands the culture and expectations we have, and I'm glad he wants to continue to be a part of it. I expect him to do a great job and be a tremendous asset to our program."

Lloyd will have many responsibilities including assisting with the hitters, infielders, and baserunning. He will also help assistant coaches Cory Barton and Nick Zaleski with recruiting, travel, equipment, field maintenance and many other areas.

He will also serve as the coordinator for Cowboy Baseball Camps, which run camps for both youth and high school levels throughout the year.

A four-year starter for McNeese, Lloyd's hard work on the field as well as his dedication in the classroom was honored by his placement on the 2013 Capital One District 6 All-Academic team. He also collected multiple All-Southland Conference and All-Louisiana Sports Writers Association accolades and was named to the SLC All-Academic team twice during his career.

Appearing in 207 games throughout his career, the Marshall, Texas native finished with a .280 batting average. He tallied 208 hits, 101 runs scored, 24 doubles, one triple, a homer, 92 RBI and 21 steals. He became just the seventh Poke in program history to reach 200 career hits against Stephen F. Austin on May 3, 2015. Lloyd took to the mound for the first time in his career on April 29, 2015 and struck out the only batter that he faced to help secure the win for the Cowboys.

As a senior, Lloyd ranked first on the team with a .321 clip along with 10 doubles, a triple, a homer and 29 RBIs for a .405 slugging percentage. His 20 multiple-hit games and eight multiple-RBI performances ranked second on the team while also having reached base 11 straight times during the season. Lloyd ranked eighth in the conference with 66 hits and third on the McNeese team with 81 total bases. His work in 48 starts at shortstop helped lead the Cowboys to 28 of their 31 victories.

Graduating from McNeese in 2014, he received his bachelor's degree in Educational Leadership and is currently pursuing a Master's in Education.
