After serving as an intern in the McNeese State sports information department for the last three years, Hunter Bower has been promoted to full-time status as the Director of Social Media as well as assistant sports information director.

A native of Haynesville, La., Bower will have oversight and daily management of McNeese’s athletic social media platforms and will assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive digital and social media strategy with a key focus on elevating fan engagement, growing the social media community and enhancing the McNeese brand.

Bower will also serve as the primary contact for women’s soccer, baseball and tennis and second contact for the football and men’s basketball squads.

McNeese’s national exposure rose over the last year with the help of Bower’s plan to rebrand all social media platforms. Beginning in August of 2015, he spearheaded the “McNeese Athletics: What We Live For” campaign and was essential in creating the department’s first Snapchat and Periscope accounts as well as coordinating efforts to gain more followers on traditional platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. As of January 2016, the campaign has brought in over 7,000 new followers across all platforms, a 20% increase from just four months earlier.

As an intern, Bower was recognized by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association as he placed third in the Division IV Category publications contest for his work on the 2013 McNeese Tennis media guide while his 2014 McNeese Baseball Media Guide was sixth best in the nation as announced by CoSIDA during its annual publications contest. His 2015 baseball guide placed in the top ten of the University Division CoSIDA contest.

Bower is a member of CoSIDA, where he has served as a judge for the annual Publications and Digital Designs contests for the last two years. He is also a member of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
