Prior to joining the SFA staff, Truax spent five years at Northwestern State where he was the co-offensive coordinator and coached offensive line and special teams. He helped lead the Demons to the 2004 conference title and playoff appearances in 2002 and 2004.
Truax began his college coaching career in 1994 when he joined Bobby Keasler's staff at McNeese and coaching the defensive tackles.
In his five years at McNeese, the Cowboys won the 1995 and 1997 conference championship, appeared in the FCS playoffs four times (1994, 1995, 1997, 1998), and helped coach the Cowboys to the 1997 national title game.
While at McNeese, he coached and developed six all-conference players, three who earned academic All-American honors, three eventual NFL players and four All-Americans.
He left McNeese after the 1998 season, following Keasler to ULM where he spent three years coaching the offensive line, tight ends and special teams.
A graduate of Richardson High School in Richardson, Texas, Truax was a Prep All-American as a defensive tackle in 1987.
