Derek Shay

Derek Shay is in his first season at McNeese and comes from the IMG Academy where he spent the last two seasons coaching the offensive line.

He'll handle the tight end duties at McNeese.

A graduate of Eastern Illinois University where he coached under Cowboys' head coach Sterlin Gilbert, Shay got his start in coaching at his alma mater by handling the offensive line and tight end positions in his two seasons. After that, he moved on to Bowling Green where he coached tight ends alongside current Syracuse head coach Dino Babers.

He then went on to serve as the Co-Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach at national power Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, and spent time coaching and mentoring athletes as the offensive line coach for USA Football’s U17 National Developmental Team.

Shay also worked at the high school level for two seasons, serving as an assistant coach at Cerro Gordo High School (2010) and Marshall High School (2011).

Shay played collegiately for one season at Western Illinois University before transferring to Eastern Illinois and finishing out his college career in coaching.
