James enters his first season with the Cowboys as a volunteer assistant coach, working on the defensive side of the ball, particularly with the linebackers. 

James previously coached as an offensive graduate assistant at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. As the wide-receivers and tight-ends coach, Roberson produced three all-conference selections, including Colby Mica, a wide receiver who ranked fourth in receptions per game, fifth in receiving yards per game, and currently holds the HPU record for career receptions (213).

James began his coaching career as a student coach under Todd Berry at the University of Louisiana at Monroe from 2012 through the 2014 season. While at ULM, James assisted in coaching the first bowl team in ULM history, when the Warhawks played in the 2012 Independence Bowl.

James is married to his wife, Jessica and they have twin daughters- Austin and Kendall who recently turned one in April.
