J.B. Lageman is in his second season on the McNeese, coacing the defensive line.
In the 2021 spring season, McNeese’s defensive line was one of the most dominant in all of FCS with consensus All-American Isaiah Chambers and all-conference selection Mason Kinsey. The two combined to account for 11 of the team’s 25 sacks (Chambers 7.5, Kinsey 3.5) and 21.5 tackles for a loss (Chambers 14.5, Kinsey 7.0).
Lageman arrived at McNeese with several years of coaching experience at Concord, Louisville and most recently, at Florida Tech were he served as the defensive line coach in 2019.
Prior to Florida Tech, Lageman spent four seasons at Louisville where he worked as a quality control coach on the defensive side of the ball. While with the Cardinals, the defense produced two All-Americans, eight NFL Draft selections, and 14 All-ACC selections.
Lageman spent two seasons at Concord prior to joining the Louisville staff, where he assisted on defense, guiding the Mountain Lions to an 11-0 record and a Mountain East Conference Championship.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Lageman played collegiately at West Virginia. A former walk-on, he earned a scholarship in his final two seasons, starting three games as a senior on defense, which finished third in the country in total defense.
Lageman earned his master’s degree from Louisville in the spring of 2018 after graduating with a degree in history from West Virginia in 2013.
