Tyler Bolfing returns to his alma mater in 2018 and will coach the tight ends.
The former McNeese quarterback and native of Montgomery, Texas, spent the previous two seasons at Louisiana-Monroe with former Cowboys’ head coach Matt Viator.
At ULM, Bolfing assisted with an offensive unit that was one of the most productive in all of FBS last season.
The Warhawks ranked No. 21 in the country in total offense (458.0 yards per game), 24th in passing offense (287.7 ypg), and was 25th in scoring offense (33.9).
He assisted in coaching wide receiver and kick returner Marcus Green, who earned first team All-Sun Belt honors as well as being named an All-American by the Sporting News, Football Writers Association of America, CollegeFootballNews.com, and Pro Football Focus.
Bolfing’s offense also produced all-conference players in lineman Frank Sutton and wide receiver RJ Turner. Quarterback Caleb Evans and wide receiver Brian Williams picked up honorable mention honors.
As a QB at McNeese, Bolfing played in 27 games from 2012-14, making five starts, and completed 98 of 177 passes for 1,252 yards and eight touchdowns.Â
He was part of several memorable games, including wins at FBS opponents Middle Tennessee (27-21 in 2012) and South Florida (53-21, 2013), as well as a near college football stunner at Nebraska (lost 31-24 in 2014).
In the win at South Florida, the largest margin of victory by an FCS team over a then-BCS opponent in NCAA history, Bolfing completed all four of his passes for 37 yards.
He got the start against Nebraska and completed 9 of 17 passes for 101 yards.
At Montgomery HS, he earned first team all-district honors as a senior and was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association honorable mention team. During his high school career, Bolfing accumulated 4,561 passing yards, 57 touchdowns, and completed 57 percent of his passes.
He earned his bachelor’s degree at in health and human performance at McNeese in 2015 and his master's degree in sports management from ULM in 2017.
Bolfing is married to the former Lakeyn Fontenot, who is Assistant AD for Event Management and Facilities at McNeese, and a former Cowgirl softball player. Â
