Returning after having been called up to active duty with the National Guard just prior to start of last season because of hurricanes...spent the season helping out in New Orleans and in Cameron Parish....has now missed a couple of seasons due to his status in the National Guard...just this past spring was named winner of the Southland Conference’s Steve McCarty citizenship award....went through spring drills and will provide depth at defensive end this season...has also worked at tight end for the Cowboys...good strength (350 in the bench and 560 in the squat) and speed (4.85 in the 40)..high motor performer

High School: all-district as tight end and linebacker...defensive team captain...defensive MVP on Beauregard Daily News post season team...threw javelin and ran quarter in track...outfielder and pitcher in baseball...salutatorian of graduating class...3.96 GPA

Other: birthdate 2/22/86....Instrumentation Engineering major...named to SLC commissioner’s honor list...parents are Edwin and Cindy Shotwell....he is a staff sergeant in the National Guard and served a tour of duty in Iraq in 2004
