2nd as Assistant Coach
Preston David turned a four-year playing career for the Cowboys into a full-time assistant coach spot beginning of the 2014-15 season after serving two years as a graduate assistant and one as the director of basketball operations.Â
A 2011 (bachelors) and 2013 (masters) graduate of McNeese, David works with the posts and centers, a position he played for four seasons as a Cowboy where he racked up 66 career blocked shots and is currently ranked 10th on the school’s career list.
A native of Farmer’s Branch, Texas, Preston played for the Cowboys from 2008-2011, appeared in 87 games with 20 starts, scored 172 career points with 168 rebounds and had 66 career blocked shots. Â
In his senior season, the Cowboys finished 21-12 and won their first conference championships in nine years and participated in the postseason NIT tournament where they hosted but fell to Boston College in the first round. Preston led the team with 43 blocked shots that season and ranked third with 105 rebounds.
Preston received his bacholor’s degree in general studies in the spring of 2011 and received a Master’s of Science degree in exercise physiology this past December.
In high school, he averaged 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots per game at R.L. Turner High School. An all-district player, the was named the team’s athlete of the year and team captain as a senior and was presented the Roy Gravely Outstanding Athlete Award.
Born on Feb. 21, 1989, he is the son of Lloyd and Keva McNeal David. His sister, Severina, played volleyball at Sam Houston State and UT Dallas.
