Chris Morriss

Chris Morriss is in his first year with the MSU throwers as an Assistant Track and Field Coach.

Morriss comes to McNeese after a successful year volunteering at Wichita State where he worked with the throwers and multi-eventers.

While assisting the full-time staff, Morriss helped develop 31 All-Missouri Valley Conference and 3 All-American performers.  In addition to setting three new school records, the throwers and multis added 24 all-time Top 10 marks in 2012-13.

During the 2011-12 season, Morriss coached the men and women throwers at Neosho County CC in Chanute, Kan.

That year the NCCC throwers earned four All-American certificates in the
weight throw, javelin, and a runner-up performance in the women's hammer.

Prior to moving to Kansas, Morriss coached high school in the Denver area for Smoky Hill and Dakota Ridge.  During that time, Smoky Hill won three straight Boy's 5A track championships.  His throwers had eight state finals appearances and two individual state championships.

In 2008, Morriss coached Marcus Sparks to the fifth longest discus throw in Colorado history at 192'8.

Morriss is originally from Mission Viejo, Calif., and a graduate of Mission Viejo High School, Saddleback College, and the University of California, Riverside.

He holds a USATF Level II certificate in the throwing events.

He is married to Kim Morriss and has one son, Grady.
