Melanie Coyne

Melanie Coyne is in her third year with McNeese Athletics and her second as the department's Director of Event and Facility Operations. She was promoted to an Assistant AD this summer.

In her first year at McNeese in 2019-20, she served as the Director of Operations for Cowgirl softball, soccer and tennis.

Born on June 19, 1995, Coyne arrived at McNeese after spending nearly two years as the pitching coach for the University of Louisiana – Monroe softball team. During her time at ULM, she worked with the bullpen along with handling team operations such as travel, visiting team procedures, fundraising, community service, and social media. 

As the primary pitching coach, Coyne mentored former Warhawk Paige Porter-Murry during the 2018 season, leading her to multiple top 10 spots in the ULM career record book. Coyne played a major role in leading the Warhawks to the Sun Belt Tournament for the 11th consecutive season.

The California native, Coyne was a four-year softball letter winner at the University of Louisiana- Monroe and was named to the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team in 2015. In the classroom, Coyne was named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List and the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll. 

She currently ranks in the top five in eight different categories in the ULM record book: innings pitched in a career (671.6), appearances in a career (133), strikeouts in a career (436), games started as a pitcher in a career (109), total wins (53), complete games in a career (61), total shutouts in a career (19), games started as a pitcher in a season (38).

A 2016 graduate of the University of Louisiana-Monroe, Coyne earned her bachelor’s degree in English.  In 2018, the Coyne received her master’s in Sport Management.  

Coyne is a native of Huntington Beach, California and is hte daughter of Michael and Evelyne Coyne. She has a sister, Stephanie, and brother Maximus and is the proud parent of her dog Juno.

A product of Calvary Chapel HS in Santa, Ana, California, Coyne played softball all four years, earning first team all-league honors from 2010-13. She was named pitcher of the year in 2011 and 2012 as well as the league's MVP in 2012. She helped guide her team to undefeated league marks all four years while tossing two career perfect games and racking up a career record of 28-6.

She was named her freshman and sophomore class president, director of activities as a junior and ASB president her senior year.

Outside of athletics, Coyne enjoys cooking and doing anything outdoors.

Interesting fact, Coyne's mother is a native of Paris, France which allows Melanie to have dual citizenship.

Her professional goal is to become an SWA or continue to work in event management.
