Gabby Moore is in her second season as head coach of the Cowgirls, being named to the position on May 23, 2002.
In her first season, Moore took over a Cowgirl squad that posted a 3-16 overall record and a 1-5 conference record in 2022 and led her first Cowgirl team (2023) to a 15-6 overall record and a third place tie in the Southland Conference with a 4-3 record. The 15 wins are the most wins since the 2018 season.
Moore also guided McNeese to the Southland Conference Tournament semifinal round in her first season where the Cowgirls defeated Lamar in the opening round before falling 4-3 to second seed Incarnate Word.
The 2023 team also got off to a 5-0 start, the best start since the 1999 season and ended the season ranked No. 10 in the ITA's final regional ranking which is the first time a Cowgirl team has been ranked in the final regional poll.
A Southwest Conference and HBCU National Champion tennis coach, Moore, the 2022 SWAC Coach of the Year, came to McNeese after spending five seasons as both the men’s and women’s head coach at Jackson State where she guided the Lady Tigers to a SWAC championship and NCAA Tournament berth this past season with a 17-7 overall mark and perfect 9-0 in conference play. In addition, the men’s team finished second in the league standings and advanced to the championship of the SWAC Tournament.
A total of six of her players - three women and three men, earned All-SWAC honors.
Moore began her coaching career at Lake Forest College in August 2015 as an assistant coach where she helped lead the women’s team to its first conference title since the 2003 season while posting a 13-4 record. The next year, she joined Jackson State as an assistant for the men’s and women’s program before taking over as the head coach in November of 2017.
In the fall of 2017, she led the men’s team to the HBCU National Championship as well as guiding the women’s team to a second place finish in the nation.
Moore was also a standout player where she was a four-time SWAC Champion and All-SWAC recipient from 2012-15 as a member of the Southern Jaguars. She participated in the NCAA Tournament in both 2012 and 2013.
Moore received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Southern in May 2015.
