Byron Hixon is in his fifth season with the Cowboys and Cowgirls and serves as the program's pole vault coach with his vaulters consistently scoring points in both the indoor and outdoor conference championships during his time.
Hixon came to McNeese after serving several seasons at Sam Houston High School as the pole vault coach from 2012-17 and also with the Bayou Vault Club for 2016-17.
From 2009-11, he worked with sprinters and distance runners at Hamilton Christian High School in Lake Charles where he helped his team to the 2010 Louisiana Outdoor State Championship and the 2011 Louisiana Indoor and Outdoor State Championships.
A native of Lake Charles, Hixson married to his wife, Jennifer, who is a McNeese alum, in October 1993. The couple has two children, son Tyler, who is a McNeese alum and assistant pole vault coach for McNeese, and daughter Haley, a local hair dresser.
Hixon is a graduate of Barbe High School and McNeese State University.
He enjoys hunting, fishing, UTV trail riding and cooking.
