Katherine Hoskins joined McNeese in the fall of 2014 after she spent the last season on the staff at the University of Texas.
At McNeese, she'll coach the sprinters and hurdlers.
While at Texas, she helped coach the Longhorns to the women's indoor and outdoor Big 12 Championship and a runner-up spot at the NCAA indoor and outdoor championship meets. The men's team finished second in both the indoor and outdoor league meets.
Her women's sprints, hurdles and relays athletes were a key factor on the Longhorns' dominating performance at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships where they tallied 96 of the team's 149 total points. She coached her athletes to wins in five of the six sprint/hurdle/relays events at that meet. In addition, she coached Courtney Okolo who ran a 50.03 in teh 400 meters to set a new collegiate record while 11 of Buford-Bailey's 13 entries at the NCAA Outdoor West Preliminary Round advanced to the national meet.
During the outdoor season, the 4x400-meter relay posted three of the top 12 all-time best collegiate performance, including the second-best time (3:24.21) in winning the NCAA title.
The Lady Longhorns were also impressive during the 2014 indoor season, claiming the Big 12 title and finishing as runners-up at the NCAA meet. At nationals, the 4x400 unit of Briana Nelson, Courtney Okolo, Kendall Baisden and Ashley Spencer posted the second-fastest time (3:27.42) in collegiate history, but were edged in that event by Oregon who set a new record (3:27.40). In addition, Spencer, Okolo and Baisden finished 2-4-5, respectively, in the 400 meters.Â
Prior to her arrival on the Forty Acres in Sept. 2013, Hoskins served as assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at The University of New Orleans during the 2012-13 academic year. Working under head coach Ty Sevin, a former McNeese head coach, Hoskins mentored the Privateers in the sprints, hurdles and distance groups in their inaugural reinstated season, which was suspended after Hurricane Katrina. Hoskins played a key role in recruiting, helping build a 53-member incoming class at New Orleans which included several outstanding Southland Conference freshmen finalists. In addition, Hoskins served multiple roles within team operations, including a brief stint as Interim Head Coach where she hosted the program’s first UNO Cross Country Relay Opener Meet.
Leading up to her time at UNO, Hoskins spent the 2011-12 year as an assistant at Texas A&M, where she assisted in the training student-athletes in the distance and sprint disciplines. In this capacity, Hoskins contributed to Texas A&M’s third-place finishes on both the men’s and women’s sides at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and 3 Big 12 Track and Field team titles. Individually, she helped mentor a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, two NCAA champions, sixteen NCAA All-Americans, nineteen Big 12 Conference champions, as well as ten NCAA All-South Central Region and eleven All-Big 12 athletes in cross country.
Hoskins has also served as a strength and conditioning coach in addition to a hurdles coach in a private capacity among the high school and collegiate ranks.
Hoskins ran collegiately for Dallas Baptist University where she earned two All-America honors in the sprint and hurdle events.
A native of Amarillo, Texas, Hoskins graduated from West Texas A&M in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in sports and exercise sciences with an emphasis in sports psychology. She then went on to earn her master’s degree in sport management from Texas A&M in 2012.
