LAKE CHARLES—First year McNeese head volleyball coach Sasha Karelov began assembling her staff and has announced the hiring of Joe Morales as an assistant coach on Feb. 4.
“I’m so excited to have Joe join the McNeese family,” said head coach Sasha Karelov. “He brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge and experience from his time at Texas A&M-Kingsville and UTSA that will really benefit our athletes. He compliments me well and his energy and passion for the sport is infectious.”
Morales, a native of San Antonio, comes to McNeese after spending the 2021 season as an assistant coach at UTSA.
Prior to his stint at UTSA, Morales spent the previous nine seasons as an assistant coach at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, primarily working with the setters and serving as recruiting coordinator.
During his time with the Javelinas, he helped lead them to the Lone Star Conference Tournament every season and a program-record seven consecutive winning seasons.
Prior to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Morales served as a volunteer assistant coach at Texas State during the 2011 season. With the Bobcats, Morales helped the team to a 15-1 conference record, capturing both the Southland Conference regular season and tournament titles and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
Morales started his collegiate career at Iowa Central Community College as the assistant coach in 2009.
Morales graduated from Texas State with a bachelor's degree in Communications where he was a member of the men's volleyball club and received a master's in Sports and Athletic Administration from Gonzaga.
