Lindsey Petzold, a former Cowgirl standout is in her third year as a McNeese assistant coach. Petzold returned to her alma mater in 2017 after spending the previous nine years in the high school and club ranks.Â
In her first season (2017) as an assistant, McNeese posted its most successful season with 19 wins and most conference wins (10) since the 2007 season, her senior season at McNeese. The Cowgirls also advanced to the SLC tournament for the third time in the last four years.
Prior to McNeese, she was the head volleyball coach at Giddings High School in Giddings, Texas from 2008-2013 and most recently (2014-2016) at Magnolia West High School in Magnolia, Texas.
Petzold led Giddings to the playoffs four out of five seasons and earned a place in school history by reaching the Regional Quarterfinal playoffs in 2010. Petzold was the winningest coach in Magnolia West Volleyball history with an overall record of 67-48 in three seasons.Â
In 2015, she was named District 19-5A Coach of the Year after her team won the district title and Magnolla’s first ever playoff appearance.
On the club side Petzold spent the 2016 season with TAV Houston where she served as head coach of 15 Black.Â
Previously she spent three club seasons (2013-2015) with Brazos Valley Juniors out of College Station, Texas where she was the head coach for the Top 16’s team (2013) and the Top 14’s team (2014), becoming the staff director during her last season in 2015.
She holds three of the Top 10 single season block assists records.
In 2004, Petzold led the Cowgirls with 103 block solos which is the fifth highest single season record. She bettered that in 2006 when she picked up 106 block solos to lead the team and that is the third best single season record. Her 93 block assists in 2007 rank her 10th on the list. She also has the seventh best single season blocks per set average with 1.16 she averaged in 2006.
Petzold is a former McNeese standout who was a a middle blocker from 2004-2007. She holds the career block assists record and ranks third in career total blocks with 405 and seventh in career blocks per set. Petzold was named Southland Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2007-2008.Â
She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Health and Human Performance in 2008, earning a 3.92 GPA. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree from McNeese in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Health Promotion.
