Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Loss At Houston Baptist

HOUSTON, Texas—McNeese volleyball ran into a well-balanced Houston Baptist team Thursday night and came up short in a 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13) Southland Conference loss.

McNeese didn't help its cause as the Cowgirls produced its lowest hitting percent of the season after posting its highest hitting percent of the season against Alcorn on Tuesday.

McNeese got off to a slow start in all three sets it lost. When the Cowgirls were able to get something going, Houston Baptist put a stop to the momentum with either a block or a Jessica Wooten kill.

Houston Baptist entered the match as the fourth best blocking team in the league but looked like the top blocking team after picking up 21 total blocks on the night. Wooten led all players with 20 kills on the night and Allison Doerpinhaus picked up 14 blocks with 12 of those being block assists.

The Cowgirls had two players record 10 or more kills with Amber Fryer ending the match with 14 and Carly DeMarque coming away with 11. DeMarque led the Cowgirls with four blocks and produced the best Cowgirl hitting percent at .391.

Libero Malina Sanchez led all players with a match high 18 digs and Kelly Graham dished out 31 assists for the Cowgirls.

McNeese (12-13, 2-7 SLC) will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas Saturday to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 1 p.m. match.
