LAKE CHARLES—The McNeese volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-23) setback to Sam Houston State Saturday in a Southland Conference match.
The Cowgirls (10-9, 1-3 SLC) never got into a rhythm and struggled with serving, a place McNeese leads the Southland Conference. McNeese ended the match with 14 service errors and a .184 hitting percent.
Juniors
Malina Sanchez and
Amber Fryer led the Cowgirls, who were playing without their senior leader
Rachel Cagnina. Both players picked up eight kills apiece. Junior
Maegan Carlton came off the bench to give the Cowgirls a spark and ended the match with six kills on 15 attempts with only two errors.
Kelly Graham dished out 30 assists while
Adison Giambrone led the Cowgirls with seven digs. McNeese did pick up more blocks that the Bearkats with 11. Freshman
Shelby Poehls had four on the day.
Sam Houston State (9-7, 2-1 SLC) had a .256 team hitting percent and was led in kills by Devene Wells-Gibson's match high 18 kills.
