LAKE CHARLES—Prior to Sunday's 2 p.m. women's basketball game against Southern Miss, McNeese will retire the No. 32 jersey of Cowgirl great and Hall of Famer Pat "Shoney" Jean, who some say is the best player to ever wear a Cowgirl uniform.

During her four-year career, Jean set just about every McNeese record during an era when the three-point line didn't exist. She still holds a combined 17 records including 13 school records and four conference records. The school records include career records for points scored (2,461), rebounds (1,571) steals (350), field goals made (986), field goal percent (57.2) and free throw attempts (798).  Jean also ranks second in career blocks with 106. Jean also holds the school season records for points, rebounds, field goals made, field goal percent and free throw attempts.  Jean holds the single game school records for rebounds and free throw attempts as well.

Jean continues to hold the Southland Conference career rebounds (1,571) and rebound average (13.2) records. Her 13.7 rebounds per game average in 1983, was the highest among the league that season.

She ranks in six, Top 10 Southland Conference categories, ranking first in rebounds and rebound average. Jean also ranks second in field goals made, fourth in scoring and seventh in field goal percent.

The records don't stop there as Jean continues to hold the SLC Tournament record for most field goals made in a game with 15. Jean was named to the 1983 Southland Conference All-Tournament team, the first McNeese player named the all-tournament team.

The Opelousas native was a four-time all-Louisiana selection and an all-Southland Conference pick for the only year she played in the conference.

Jean was inducted into the McNeese Hall of Fame in 1996.
