Guidry extends streak; Cowboys flat at TCU

Box Score BOX SCORE

FORT WORTH –
Desharick Guidry recorded his sixth straight double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, but that would be the only positive thing to come out of McNeese's game against TCU on Saturday night as the Horned Frogs downed the Cowboys 68-50.

The loss drops McNeese to 4-3 on the season, 0-3 away from home. The Cowboys will open a three-game home stand on Tuesday when they host LSU-Alexandria. TCU improves to 10-0 for the first time in school history.

McNeese never led in the game but had several opportunities in the first half when it tied the game three different times and trailed just 22-20 with 4:31 to play in the first half. But that's when the Cowboys sat a couple of key players and TCU ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 29-20 lead.

"That four minute stretch is when they bumped the score up," said head coach Dave Simmons. "I thought we played well. They were big, long, and strong and a good basketball team. They're not 10-0 for nothing."

Aside from Guidry's double-double, Shaun Johnson came off the bench to led the Cowboys with 12 points while Kevin Hardy added 10 points, five assists and five rebounds.

McNeese hit just 17 of 57 from the field (29.8 percent) and was out-rebounded by a 49-32 margin including a 20-12 advantage on the offensive glass.

"They had a lot of offensive rebounds but we were right there with them," said Simmons. "But we couldn't keep them off the glass. It didn't matter what we ran at them."

Karviar Shepherd led the Frogs with 12 points while Kenrich Williams was the only TCU player to score in double-figures as he finished with 13 points. The Frogs knocked down 26 of 60 for 43 percent from the field but hit 15 of 30 for 50 percent in the second half.

TCU added to its 7-0 run to end the first half with a 4-0 to start the second and led it 33-20 behind layups from Trey Zeigler and Shepherd. Austin Lewis, who finished with two points and three blocks on the night for the Cowboys, dunked his only field goal of the game to cut the margin to 11 before McNeese went on a two-minute drought without a field goal as TCU built a 15-point lead.

Johnson's third three-pointer of the night was followed by a Guidry layup to cut the margin to 41-33 with 14:16 to play the Marcus Mathieu hit a jumper three minutes later to keep the margin at eight points but then TCU opened it up and posted a 16-4 run over the next seven minutes to go up 59-39 with 4:11 to play. The closest McNeese would get the rest of the way came on the final basket when Darrell Joubert knocked down a three-pointer with 48 seconds to play to make it 68-50.

"We played hard but played in stretches," said Simmons "We knew this was going to be a tough basketball game coming up here. If you don't shoot it well and rebound it against a strong opponent, you're going to be in trouble."
