Cowgirls Hit Season High 11 Three's In 82-58 Win Over UNO

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball team made a season high 11 three-pointers and Allison Baggett made a career high seven in the Cowgirls' 82-58 win over New Orleans Saturday.
 
"We had a great team defensive effort today," said head coach Brooks Donald Williams. "I thought our girls locked in and set the tone from start to finish."
 
Baggett scored a game high 25 points with 19 coming in the first half.  Baggett scorched the nets in the first half, connecting on 6 of 9 from the field including 5 of 7 from 3-point range.
 
Three other Cowgirls scored in double figures with Amber Donnes chipping in 15.  Donnes was 6 of 8 from the field and made 3 of 5 three-pointers.
 
Talisa Boyd picked up her third double-double in the last four games with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Boyd ended the game with eight defensive rebounds.
 
Jayln Johnson scored 12 points and dished out a game high eight assist.
 
McNeese (12-8, 6-3 SLC) set the tone early in the game by scoring the first 10 points including two straight three's by Baggett and Donnes.  UNO scored its first points of the game on a layup by Yasmin Taylor, six minutes into the game.
 
The Cowgirls continued its hot shooting from the outside and held a 20 point lead (41-21) with five minutes left in the half.  The Cowgirls went into the locker room at the break holding a 51-29 lead.
 
After producing its best half of the season in the second half against Southeastern La. on Thursday, the Cowgirls bettered that half by shooting 60 percent and also 60 percent from three-point. The Cowgirls were 9 of 15 from behind the arc in the second half.
 
In the second half, the Cowgirls built on their lead by opening the second half on a 7-2 run to take a 27-point lead with 16:41 to play.  McNeese held its largest lead of the game, 28 points with 9:07 left.
 
McNeese's defense held UNO to 30.6 shooting on the day and outrebounded UNO  43-34. 
 
UNO's Halie Matthews led the Privateers with 14 points and six rebounds. Jewel Angelo added 11 points.
