HUNTSVILLE, Texas-- McNeese volleyball snapped Sam Houston State's four match winning streak and pulled off a 3-2 (13-25, 20-25, 25-11, 26-24, 17-15) Southland Conference upset victory Sam Houston State Saturday to hand the Bearkats their first conference loss of the season.
Senior
Malina Sanchez led the Cowgirls with 19 kills while setter
Kelly Graham dished out 34 assists and led with a .583 hitting percent. Five Cowgirls picked up 10 or more digs.
Adison Giambrone picked up a match high 23 digs.
Bridget Justis was credited with 13, Graham and
Hailee Showers both picked up 11 and Sanchez ended the match with 10.
Monica Hudgins and
Rae Myers were credited with six blocks apiece and
Ebony Lewis had five.
McNeese (5-12, 2-2 SLC) came back from being down 0-2 after falling 25-13 and 25-20 in the first two sets. The Cowgirls came back from the break as a different team to hit .600 in the third set to take a 25-11 victory. McNeese was flawless in the set, recording 15 kills in 25 attempts without committing an error.
McNeese evened the match at two sets apiece with a 26-24 fourth set win. McNeese held a 20-15 lead but allowed Sam Houston State to tie the set at 24 all. The Cowgirls scored the next two points off the hand of Sanchez for the Cowgirl victory, sending the match to a deciding fifth set.
The Cowgirls held an early 6-2 lead but the set got tight just like the fourth set before the Cowgirls pulled out the 17-15 victory.
