NEW ORLEANS – The McNeese women's tennis team fell to a strong Tulane squad 4-0 on Saturday in the last match of a six-match road swing.
Today's match was very competitive," said head coach
Helena Besovic. "We had a slow start but we really came around in singles play. With each match that we play we are getting more confident, and we are starting to really believe that we belong among the best. Our homework now is to practice hard and get ready for our home matches."
The match opened with doubles play as the team of
Klaudia Gawlik and
Anastasija Trubich fell to the team of Nicky Stracar and Vanessa Nommensen while Tulane picked up the first point as
Vivien Borbely and
Andreea Nenu lost to Ipek Birol and Jacqui Katz 6-0.
In singles action, Nenu met defeat in the No. 6 spot 6-4, 6-0, at the hands of Sade Atkinson, while Trubich fell to Katz 6-2, 6-0 on Court 5. The Green Wave clinched the match with Nommensen's victory over Borbely on Court 4 6-3, 6-1 to earn the team's fourth and deciding point.
Due to the match clinching point, Gawlik, Kral and Brett were not able to finish their singles contests.
The Cowgirls (1-4) will return home to rest up before hosting the first of three straight home matches that begins with a contest against UTA on Friday, Feb. 20 at 2 o'clock.
