LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese State women's tennis team will be back in action this weekend when the Cowgirls return home to the Nancy Hank Tennis Center for a Southland Conference showdown with Nicholls at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Free pizza will be provided for all fans in attendance while supplies last.
The match will feature some of the top tennis in the league as the two teams enter the contest a combined 5-0 in the SLC. McNeese will come into the match with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference action. The Cowgirls have won five straight matches with four of those coming on the road.
Junior
Klaudia Gawlik turned in another perfect record on the week for McNeese to better her record to a team-best 6-1 in singles on the season and also picked up her third win in doubles. Gawlik will enter the match riding a six-match singles winning streak.
Sophomore
Julia Kral came up big in a nail-biter against Lamar over the weekend as she clinched the match point to help McNeese to a 4-3 victory and a 2-0 record in conference.
Nicholls (9-2, 3-0 SLC) is also a winner of five consecutive contests and have also posted back-to-back shutouts in their last two matches. The Colonels have posted league wins against New Orleans, Lamar and Sam Houston State this season.
Stephanie Barnett leads the Colonels into Thursday's match after collecting Player of the Week honors from the conference office. Barnett's eight singles victories are the best on the team and she comes in with a four-game winning streak.
Isla Brock has also posted outstanding numbers for Nicholls this season with a 6-0 record in singles action along with a 6-1 record in doubles with partner Kateryna Nakonechna.
Following Thursday's match, the Cowgirls will be back in action on Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. when they face off against Central Arkansas.
