Tennis Hits the Road for Pair of SLC Matches

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese State women's tennis team will hit the road for a pair of weekend matches as the Cowgirls take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday at 5 p.m. and will follow up with a match against Incarnate Word on Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Cowgirls (7-5, 3-1 SLC) picked up another league win on Tuesday as they cruised by Central Arkansas in a 6-1 decision. McNeese now stands in fourth spot in the conference standings and is one win out of first place.

Sophomore Julia Kral continues to lead the Cowgirls with an 8-1 mark and three straight victories in singles action while she and freshman Hannah Brett have now clinched six consecutive doubles matches.

A&M-Corpus Christi (8-6, 2-2 SLC) picked up two consecutive league victories on the road this past week at Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans. The Islanders were able to score decisive wins after dropping their first two SLC matches to Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State.

AMCC has four players who have won seven or more singles matches and are led by Maider Martin who has captured 10 decisions on the No. 4 spot. Number one player Judit Vives is 5-6 on the season.

Incarnate Word (2-14, 0-4) has battled through some struggles as of late and recently dropped its fourth straight conference match at Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend.

Rachel Sadiq leads the Cardinal squad with 10 singles victories this season and has scored seven of those at the No. 1 position.

Following the weekend's action, the Cowgirls will return home on Thursday, April 2 to take on Abilene Christian at 2 o'clock at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
