LAFAYETTE – The McNeese State women's tennis team turned in one of its most dominating performances of the year as the Cowgirls shut down Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-0, on Wednesday at the Cajun Courts.
 
The victory improved McNeese to 3-4 overall on the year and also gave the Cowgirls consecutive victories for the first time during 2015 season. With the loss, ULL fell to a 3-7 mark on the year as the Ragin' Cajuns dropped their fourth straight match.
 
"I am very proud of our effort today against a talented ULL team," said head coach Helena Besovic. "We came out strong in doubles and continued our high level performances in singles. Our collective effort paid off today."
 
The Cowgirls posted an impressive performance in doubles action, picking up wins on all three courts to pick up the point. The McNeese tandem of Julia Kral and Hannah Brett defeated ULL's Melissa Burckhartt and Abby Johnson 7-5, at the second court, before the Cowgirls team of Sarah Jurakova and Vivien Borbely ousted the Cajuns' Alexandria Way and Lauren Dupuis. The point was clinched as the team of Klaudia Gawlik and Anastasija Trubich defeated ULL's Nelo Phiri and Elena Sava, 8-5.
 
Up 1-0 after doubles, McNeese then won three straight in singles action to clinch the 4-0 win. In the No. 6 spot, Anastasija Trubich took down Dupuis 6-0, 6-2 while Brett took a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 court.
 
Gawlik wrapped up singles play for the Cowgirls with a hard fought 6-4, 6-3 victory over ULL's Nelo Phiri over on Court 1.
 
Gawlik improved her overall singles record to 3-1 on the season while the team of Brett and Kral are now 3-1 in the doubles division this season.
 
Kral, Borbely and Jurakova's matches went unfinished due to the Cowgirls clinching the winning point.
 
McNeese will return to action on Saturday, March 7 when it travels back to Lafayette to meet Air Force in a neutral site match. First serve is slated for 2 o'clock.
