Softball Hosts Third Ranked LSU Wednesday In DH

LAKE CHARLES--  McNeese softball will host third ranked LSU in the first ever televised game at Cowgirl Diamond in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday, weather permitting.
 
The game can be seen on either Cox Sports or ESPN3.
 
Tickets for the game are still available and may be purchased at the Jack Doland Fieldhouse until noon Wednesday. Tickets will also be sold at Cowgirl Diamond beginning at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
 
McNeese (26-17) will look to snap a three game losing streak after dropping a Southland Conference doubleheader to Northwestern State last Saturday.  The Cowgirls also fell 8-5 to 14th ranked Baylor last Thursday.
 
Freshman catcher Erika Piancastelli continues to lead the Cowgirls at the plate with a .415 batting average, 14 doubles, 16 home runs and 46. RBI. The Carlsbad, California native is two home runs shy of breaking the single season record of 17 set by Heather Moreaux in 2000.
 
Senior Lauren Langner is giving the Cowgirls offensive support with a .403 average. Langner leads the team with 52 hits, 31 runs scored and has stolen 18 of 21 bases.
 
Junior Emily Vincent leads the Cowgirls' pitching staff with a 10-4 record and 1.27 ERA. Vincent also leads the team with 83 strikeouts and 94 innings pitched. Vincent also has a .341 batting average with 46 hits, 11 doubles and 21 RBI.
 
LSU (38-5) leads the all-time series 25-3 and are the highest ranked team McNeese has played since the Cowgirls defeated no. 1 ranked Arizona State 3-1 in 2012 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona. The Tigers have won seven of the last eight games against McNeese. The Cowgirls won the last meeting between the teams in a 2-1 win in Baton Rouge last season.
 
Bianka Bell leads the Tigers with a .485 batting average, 66 hits, and 16 doubles and is one of two players with double figure home runs with 13. Sahvanna Jaquish leads LSU with 16 home runs on the year and 62 RBI.
 
Following Wednesday's game, McNeese will return to Southland Conference action with a three game series at Southeastern La. beginning with a 6 p.m. game on Friday. The series will conclude with a noon doubleheader Saturday.
