Tennis Closes Out Regular Season with Pair of Home Matches

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis team will close it out regular season play with a pair of Southland Conference weekend matches against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday at 11 a.m. and will conclude with a match Sunday against New Orleans at 11 o'clock.

Sunday's contest will feature Senior Day activities as the Cowgirls take time to recognize Andreea Nenu for her dedicated service to the team and to the university over the past four seasons.

McNeese (10-7, 6-3 SLC) currently sits in fourth place in the regular season standings and will look to capture one of the top remaining spots. The Cowgirls have the chance to finish as high as second place in the standings before the squad heads to the SLC Tournament on April 24-26 at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center in Beaumont, Texas.

The Cowgirls dropped a couple of tough decisions to league leader Stephen F. Austin as well as Northwestern State last weekend.

Sophomore Julia Kral will lead the charge into the final weekend of the regular season with a team-best 12-3 record in singles play. Kral has scored a win in eight of her last 10 matches and is poised for Player of the Year honors with a strong finish over the weekend.

Southeastern Louisiana (11-7, 3-6 SLC) dropped its only conference match last weekend to New Orleans 4-1. The Lady Lions are currently 3-3 on the road this season and are tied with Lamar for the last spot that can enter into the postseason conference tournament.

Renee Villareal has posted a great record in singles action this season with a 16-1 mark in the No. 1 spot and has also captured seven doubles victories in the process.

New Orleans (13-9, 3-6 SLC) is a winner of three straight contests including a league win over Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend. The Privateers look to gain ground in the race for the SLC Tournament, as it stands in seventh place and just one match ahead of the seed that can enter the postseason.

UNO has five members on the squad that have reached double-digit victories in singles action and are led by Soledad Calderon who has posted 10 win in the No. 1 spot.
