LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State women's tennis team snapped a two match losing streak Friday afternoon with a 4-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana in a key Southland Conference match.
Due to the threat of rain, singles were played first.
McNeese jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins at no. 2 and no. 3.
Hannah Brett picked up the first Cowgirl point with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win over Lucia Bustamante.
Sarah Jurakova followed that win with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Marqaux Kaltenbacker at no. 3 singles.
Southeastern La. tied the match at two points apiece by winning the next two match. The Lions' Natalie Duran defeated
Andreea Nenu 6-1, 6-2 and Dany Raygadas defeated
Anastasija Trubich 6-4, 6-3 an the no. 5 position.
Vivian Borbely gave McNeese a 3-2 lead with her 6-3, 6-4 win over Madina Vorotnikova at the no. 4 singles. With the only match left and the Cowgirls needing just one point to clinch the overall victory,
Julia Kral put up a good fight but fell to Renee Villarreal at the no. 1 spot in a tie-breaker 7-6, 6-3, 6-7.
The Cowgirls wasted no time in clinching the match by winning two of the doubles matches. The doubles team of Jurakova and Borbely defeated Kaltenbacker and Raygadas 8-2 at the no. 2 doubles. The Cowgirls clinched the match with a Trubich and Nenu 8-2 win over Natalie Duran and Vorotnikova at the no. 3 doubles.
McNeese will close out its home schedule with an 11 a.m. match against UNO on Sunday. Andrea Nenu will be honored prior to the match.
