LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Cowboys head basketball coach
Dave Simmons has announced the signing of 6-foot-1 guard Jarren Greenwood from Bellaire High School in Houston.
Greenwood averaging 17.1 points this past season as a senior and scored 17 points and five assists his junior year.
"We are excited about Jarren joining the McNeese basketball family," said Simmons. "He brings a lot to the table on and off the court. He comes from a program that is rich in basketball tradition. He is a student of the game that will be a pleasure to coach and for our Cowboy fans to watch play next year."
Simmons likens Greenwood's playing style to that of Northwestern State point guard Jalen West, who is arguably the best all-around player in the Southland Conference.
Greenwood, who has been selected to play in the Texas High School All-Star Game, joins early signee James Harvey of Amite High School as the newest Cowboys.
Simmons said he's expected to sign a couple more players.
Bellaire HS has produced great players such as John Lucas III and Emeka Okafor along with a big group of college players.
McNeese graduated three seniors this past season –
Kevin Hardy,
Desharick Guidry, and
Keelan Garrett.
