Box Score 2 OXFORD, Miss.—After being on the road for the last six days taking part in boh the Arkansas Invitational and the Ole Miss Tri-Match, the McNeese volleyball team returns home with its first win of the season coming from a thrilling five set 3-2 (25-21, 25-15, 22-25, 22-25, 15-13) win over Tennessee-Martin Tuesday.
"It was great to finish off this big road trip with a win," said head coach
Ashleigh Fitzgerald. "While we would have liked a sweep, winning in five is always pretty exciting. It was great to see us scraped out a win even though we weren't at our sharpest," Fitzgerald said.
After taking a 2-0 overall match lead, Tennessee-Martin avoided the sweep with a third set 25-22 win. Following the break, Tennessee-Martin stayed alive with another 25-22 win in the fourth set to send the match to a deciding fifth set. McNeese was able to come away with a 15-13 fifth set win to pick up its first win of the season to improve to 1-4 overall.
Earlier in the day, the Cowgirls dropped a four set (25-18, 25-19, 20-25, 25-16) match to host Ole Miss.
"We got a lot better on this trip. We could tell that today after we took a set from Ole Miss and beat a physical UT-Martin team made us earn our points," said Fitzgerald.
