LAKE CHARLES—The McNeese women's basketball team will look to keep their winning streak intact when the Cowgirls take to the road Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tilt at league leading Abilene Christian.
McNeese (10-5, 2-1 SLC) are one of three teams that have won at least 10 games this season and the Cowgirls are currently tied for fourth place in the conference standings. The Cowgirls will be looking for their third consecutive win after a 72-51 home win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Saturday.
For the past two games, the Cowgirls have had at least three players score in double digits in each game and three players are currently averaging double figures on the season.
Jayln Johnson leads the team in scoring (12.3 ppg.), assists (4.6), and steals (1.6). Johnson. In conference games only, Johnson leads the league with 5.7 assists per game.
Frederica Haywood leads the Cowgirls in rebounding with 4.7 per game and is coming off her second straight game with 10 or more.
Jasmyn Carswell continues to lead McNeese with a 60.8 field goal percent and
Amber Donnes has a team high 41.5 three-point field goal percent.
As a team, McNeese leads the SLC in defensive rebounds, second in three-pointers made, third in field goal percent, fourth in scoring offense, fifth in three-point field goal percent and assists.
The Wildcats (12-2, 3-0 SLC) are off to their best start since the 1996-97 season, are looking to remain undefeated at home this at 6-0. In conference games, ACU has outscored its opponents by 12 points and have outrebounded their opponents by seven. The Wildcats are the leagues top three-point shooting team, having made 36.2 percent from behind the arc.
Like the Cowgirls, ACU also has three players averaging in double figures and are led in scoring by this week's Southland Conference player of the week Alexis Mason. Mason is averaging 14.9 ppg. and is shooting 38.9 percent from the field and 87.0 from the free throw line. Sydney Shelstead is averaging 13.9 ppg. and Whitney West is averaging 11.6 ppg. The Dimba twins Lizzy and Suzzy lead the team in rebounds with 7.7 and 7.1, respectively.
