LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's tennis squad will wrap up two weeks of playing on the road as the Cowgirls get set for a challenging bout with Texas State in San Marcos, Texas on Saturday. First serve is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
McNeese (1-1) is coming off of a split weekend where it took the 11
th ranked Baylor Bears down to the wire in a 4-3 loss and bounced back with a 6-1 victory over Texas Rio Grande Valley the next day.
Freshman netter
Giovanna Fioretti highlighted the opening weekend with two singles victories and a doubles win which helped her gain status as the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Sophomore
Sarah Jurakova also went undefeated in singles and sports a 2-0 record coming into the weekend.
Texas State opens up its season against the Cowgirls following a 9-7 campaign in 2015. The Bobcats went 3-3 in Sun Belt action and advanced into the second round of the conference tournament. Texas State returns one senior and a pair of juniors while the other five players are freshmen.
Following Saturday's match, McNeese will return to the Nancy Hank Tennis Center for its home opening contest against UL-Lafayette. The match is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
