Tennis Set for Texas Two-Step This Weekend

LAKE CHARLES – Fresh off of a solid victory over one of its most fiercest rivals, the McNeese women's tennis squad will make the trek east for a "Texas Showdown" against SMU on Friday at 5 p.m. followed by a neutral site match the next day against Middle Tennessee.

The Cowgirls (3-1) picked up their third consecutive victory over UL-Lafayette Wednesday afternoon. All three of McNeese's wins have come against schools from mid-major conferences.

Sophomore Sarah Jurakova extended her singles winning streak to 13 matches against ULL and is the only Cowgirl undefeated on the season with a 4-0 mark. Senior Klaudia Gawlik and junior Vivien Borbely have won three consecutive singles bouts.

SMU (1-0) posted its only win of the season so far against Abilene Christian on Tuesday with a 5-2 decision over the Wildcats. The Mustangs are loaded with upperclassman (three seniors and three juniors) that helped post a 16-7 record in 2015 as well as one freshman.

Middle Tennessee (2-2) began the season undefeated before dropping its previous two matches to nationally ranked Miami (FL) and Michigan State. The Blue Raiders, who return four letterwinners from last season, will play No. 22 ranked TCU prior to their match with the Cowgirls.

Following their matches in Dallas, McNeese will travel to ULM on Friday, Feb. 5 before coming home to a stretch of three matches at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
